I sent an E-mail to the White House today, and immediately found myself very nervous. Who knows what legnths they will go to to supress opposition? Prior to the election, i had a few conversations with a lady who was indoctrinated into a psychotic political belief system by her father. She felt that she couldnt vote for John Kerry because the ?democrats? were building massive concentration camps for political dissenters. Someone may be planning such a thing somewhere, but i seriously doubt Mr. Kerry ever had such a thing in mind. Lets see... who has said that the Geneva Convention is quaint? Who created the situation at Abu Gharaib, and the ongoing and shamefull situation at Guantanamo Bay,Cuba?
I have been embarresed and shamed by my excercising the option of ignoring the news for the last couple days. The people to whom the news is happening to do not have the option of turning it off. The displaced citizens of Falluja, the widows, the orphans, the maimed children, the tortured, the massive amounts of people being subject to our imported famine, the amputees...they dont have the option of changing the channel, of turning up the heat, closing the blinds and climbing under a pile of blankets with a handfull of Little Debby's and a tall cold glass of milk.
It was heartening to see a story in today's Washington Post talking about the blog
http://www.fallujahinpictures.com .
I am ashamed to see no coverage of the massive anti-war protests happening at college campuses all across the country. Oh yea, thats right, there are no protests to speak of.. I am even more ashamed....
But hey, its all about Paris Hilton, Football, and..."reality television".. isnt that what's important after all?
Oh yea, great story in yesterdays NYT about the bloodthirsty Texans' about to get slapped down again by the Supreme Court.
It is unfortunate that truth is such a rare and precious commodity today.
